LET THE FEAST BEGIN

This Autumn seems to be (to me anyway) one of the best ever for berries. We started off with the best ever crop of bilberry, even Curlew were gorging on them. Now we have  tons of Acorns on almost every Oak tree, Watch out for influx of thousands of Wood Pigeon on 20th November!! The Mountain ash trees are also laden with berry awaiting the influx of thrushes. Hawthorn are weighted down with Haws. Most exciting to some of us will be to have a big influx of Waxwing to eat the White beam berry's. See the trees outside the Harold Wilson flats in Huddersfield town centre. And today the feast started see attached pics taken on our nature reserve at Farnley Tyas, NOTE the last pic ........

Unexpectedly but a nice surprise was this Sparrowhawk that scared off all the 150 plus thrushes, I don't think it came for the berry's.

I presume you meant to say sparrowhawk not peregrine Reg?

My taget bird re the berries would be hawfinch that has come in with a redwing flock! I'll be at Spurn tho until easterlies relent. I couldn't be there yday or today. Today was always going to deliver, What a bummer not to be there - it will be chaos tomorrow if it's still there

hey ho
