Barnsley BSG breeding atlas project

Our friends and neighbours Barnsley Bird Study Group are in the advanced stages of a breeding atlas project, which they aim to publish later this year. They are seeking sponsorship to fund the project on the basis of £20 per sponsored species, for which the sponsor will receive a copy of the atlas, when published.

A breeding atlas is surely amongst the most worthwhile projects a local club can do. Huddersfield Birdwatchers has sponsored three species, in the name of the club. I hope however that individual members will consider sponsoring species for themselves and support our neighbours in this magnificent project.

Full details, including the available species, can be obtained from BBSG's contact: Ian Hey, ihey@blueyonder.co.uk

The following update sent by Graham Speight of BBSG to Alf today:

Here is the latest with the Barnsley Breeding Bird Atlas;
All the species accounts are written. Half of them are edited and complete, the other half still require editing. There is also an habitat section that requires writing. The unfortunate news is that the two editors are both professional ecologists and spring/summer is their busy time of year. Both are extremely busy with work commitments at present and the Atlas has unfortunately had to take a 'back seat'. As it is their names as editors they understandably want to check and double check everything is correct before 'rushing' (we haven't really done much of that) into print. I share your frustrations in the time it is taking, as we all do but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end. Apologies once again and we ask for your patience once again.

All the very best, Graham Speight.
