We dug a small pond in the garden 18 months ago and planted usual pond plants. Last year a newt appeared and this spring we have counted 4 or 5. A week or so ago we were visited several times by a Grey Heron, and saw it fly off with something large in its beak. No longer any newts.
Yesterday morning saw Sparrowhawk on the lawn, it flew into a tree and I watched pluck a Tree Sparrow before flying off. Why couldn’t it take one of the  many Wood Pigeons that feed here.
