I am aware that Tree vs Meadow Pipit is one of those "classical" ID challenges - and one with which I still struggle.  At Carlecotes Ponds this evening, I came across two pipits, one sitting atop a tree, the other on a fence post.  They were perhaps 30-40m apart and seemed to be in dialogue with each other.  I am inclined to think that they're Tree Pipits because of very faint streaking on flanks, seemingly thick-ish bill base, and sense that eye ring was "interrupted" by dark stripe behind eye.  However, I realise that all of these features can be mis-estimated in the field.  I managed to get a couple of photos, but taken with a phone pushed against a 'scope eyepiece, the quality is fairly poor.  Any thoughts gratefully received.

Many thanks for your comments Mick.  I take the point about the "splodge", but I've seen guides which suggest that this feature is seen in Tree Pipit, albeit less often than in Meadow.  However, now that I look closely, that hind claw looks quite long.  I am now inclining towards Meadow in this case.
