Sheffield Bird Study Group website

Hi, has anyone had trouble accessing the Sheffield Bird Study Group's sightings' page recently, please?
It was working fine a few days ago but now I'm getting 'This is a test'  or '404 Not Found' messages.
Hopefully this is just a temporary thing as I like this website.

I just get the "THIS IS A TEST" page.

It looks as if the site is being reformatted in some way - maybe they assumed that there wouldn't be too much web traffic at this time of year?

Thanks, Alf.
Let's hope so. I was eager to find out if the Cemetery Avenue (Sharrow Vale) waxwings had been seen again.
I went this morning, no joy but plenty of redwings, a sparrowhawk & back in the city, the peregrine.
Because the weather was poor and I thought it would keep the dog walkers at bay, I called in at Greno/Wheta Woods, a semi-reliable site for me for bramblings in the past few years. But my struggle with them continues into 2014. Plenty of chaffinches and mixed tit flock but no bramblings.
Only another 364 days left to get them!!

You were right about the maintenance work, Alf. The SBSG is now back on line.

I saw Andy Deighton t'other day -excellent birder and Sheff stalwart. He told me the site had been hacked (assuming I understood him right) and, as is the way of these things, the site is I think run on a shoestring programme and available only because of sterling efforts of vols. So some unsung hero must have sorted it - a reminder to un-techies like me how grateful we should be to folk who keep the online stuff going. including HBW site.

Totally agree, Mick. The Sheff, Hudds & Barnsley sites are excellent & I try to view them all daily.
The internet has really changed the way I bird. I wasn't a pager subscriber.
Keep up the good work, Alf et al.

We do our best.

Grin

I'm still trying to encourage people to try Twitter which is a really good way of staying informed, but I do appear to be shouting in the wilderness at present.

Maybe I need to wait a generation?

Cool

Ah, but 'shouting in the wilderness' could equally describe Twitter itself, especially with the kind of stuff we'd be putting on it....

Anyway, I too am very grateful for the time and effort you put into maintaining this site Alf. Cheers.
