Called in at Sands lane this morning about 0700. Found that large rocks have been placed all across the entrance, preventing cars parking there. The 7 mute cygnets and parents still about, along with 3 Whitethroats. David.

A reliable source informs me they were put there to prevent "travellers" from getting on to the site.  There had been problems with them shortly before at Cleckheaton and Mirfield (and currently at New Mill).

I think your spot on Brian. We have had them on that site in the past, prior to the gravel extraction.

Judging by the amount of very small plastic bags that I've seen on the ground there the area is also used by drug users/pushers
