I think I might go for Osprey - if for no other reason than I've just been watching one on TV and the head shape, steep forhead and bill shape struck a cord ...

Re comment on previous page by Mick, only the wing tips have been more clearly defined to help with id, nothing else has been manipulated in any way, shape or form.

Tres puntos senor Presidente!

Well done Alf, Marsh Harrier it was and to be more precise a male Marsh Harrier which MC mentioned as a possibility but eventually plumped for Hen Harrier.

Distant view of the same bird that has caused a few headaches!

I'll post the answer and include a photo later on tomorrow Alf and then probably give it a rest as enthusiasm for this 'bit of fun' appears to be on the wane!

No question mark required Mick as I'm sure you know this is a juvenile bird. It was 1 of 3 birds I photographed at the same time flying SE over Las Salinas near the airport whilst holidaying with the family on Ibiza in October 2008 a few years ago.

Very annoyingly from my point of view I have managed to destroy or lose photographs of the other birds which were both adults, one of them ringed.

I contacted Roy Dennis initially wondering if the ringed bird was one of his, as it turned out it was ringed in the nest on an island off the southern tip of Majorca in June 1999 and had not been seen prior to my sighting, therefore that adult was over 9 years at the time.

That particular site is particularly favoured by Greater Flamingo and Marmora's Warbler was suggested as a possibility, I saw over a 100 Flamingo but didn't find the latter there though I did connect with Marmora's eventually on the most northerly point of Ibiza at Portinatx

It was also a great spot for one of my favourite gull species, Audouin's Gull which is encouragingly increasing in numbers nowadays
