Lidl are once again advertising Bresser binoculars and a scope, both going on sale from Mon 15th. I can't comment about the quality of either, and wouldn't expect them to be spectacular but they might make  welcome gifts for someone.

£12.50 for a pair of 10x50s. You could discard the bins and just keep the case, caps and cleaning cloth and it'd still be a bargain!

It's funny though - some of these low-end Bresser optics do get quite positive mentions on astronomy websites. Also there's a man who posts on Birdforum called (I think) Paul Corfield who gets some fairly amazing digiscoped bird pics using cheap astro equipment. Mind you, it could be that he's more interested in faffing about with adapters etc than he is in actual birding.... er, I'm rambling now....
